Unraveling the Haunting Mystery: A Deep Dive into Dybbuk (2021) Movie Review
Hop into the stream of "Dybbuk" a spine chilling horror movie launched in 2021. Jay K directed this flick, which is not another one of the horror genre, but an official remake to the acclaimed Malaysia film "Ezra." The film has a pistol premise of what they call it: a haunted Dybbuk box, which makes for a compelling ride; filled with supernatural twists and turns.
Featuring some terrific performances from a couple of charismatic actors (the ever enigmatic Emraan Hashmi and the talented Nikita Dutta) Engrossing, this story deals with some mysterious and terrifying stories of supernatural kind, revolving around an ancient box supposedly containing a restless spirit. They barely touch the chilling secrets the Dybbuk box holds as they are forced to face their worst fears and break the chains to the dark forces that seek to destroy them.
Emraan Hashmi performances as such is the only ace up its sleeve, but his delivery is top notch; however, the film’s overall execution could be rudimentary. Think inter religion marriages and family drama, which will sound very much familiar to some viewers and maybe take away from the films horrorness for others.
With some great cinematography "Dybbuk" gets about as eerie as it gets, but that’s not too scary if you can’t see. However, the ambient score gives things some good suspense but doesn’t quite elevate the whole affair beyond a routine horror picture, 3 out of 5.
For example, in storytelling terms it’s well below average, but an average score of 2 out of 5 overall. It is interesting as a concept and it scores a 4.5 out of 5, but it fails to be a nightmare inducing experience.
Then, should you watch "Dybbuk"? If you are a fan of Emraan Hashmi or love Bollywood’s version of horror on film, it’s a must check when it releases on Amazon Prime Video. It’s just, make sure you don’t come out expecting some lasting impression, because this film probably won’t stick with you for very long after the credits roll.
We have gathered to delve into the eerie mysteries of “Dybbuk” and talk through what makes a horror film, just good, or bad, in our contemporary cinematic world!
